Close by in the garden is another seating area with a table and chairs, which looks out over the charming fish pond. Inside there is a single room furnished with a double bed, side table and chair. At the back of the room is the tiled bathroom which is fitted with a shower, basin and WC. The area has been making wine for thousands of years, so a trip to one of the nearby vineyards is a must. The Fedora Natural Wine Estate (13 minutes) is over 100 years old. They will arrange a wine tasting for you, but you need to book in advance. Close by is the ancient village of Stanjel (5 minutes), the oldest settlement in the region. Stanjel is dominated by the Medieval castle which is a fascinating place to visit and offers many activities for all ages as well as a restaurant serving local cuisine. For visitors who want to escape into unspoiled nature, there are well-marked trails through pristine forests in the Riserva Naturale del Monte Lanaro (32 minutes) which is on the Italian side of the border. The port city of Trieste, is only 30 minutes away and well worth a day trip, to explore its many different characteristics, a combination of Latin, Slavic and German cultures. Nearby visitors will find some beautiful beaches, including Canovella degli Zoppoli (32 minutes) and close by Le Ginestre beach (33 minutes) Away from the coast, the area is famous for its rock formations, caves and subterranean rivers. Skocjan Caves (35 minutes) is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a spectacular series of caves, stalagmites and stalactites. The closest airport is Trieste, which is a 45-minute drive. Alternatively, Ljubljana Airport is 1 hour and 15 minutes.
